IRB RACING

IRB Racing training plans, built for your goal

IRB Racing pairs a driver and crew person punching an inflatable rescue boat out through the surf and back — raw upper-body power matters, but so does reading the surf and boat control under load. SportBlox builds your IRB racing training plan around your crew role, fitness and carnival calendar.

Who it's for

Who it's for

First season crewing an IRB

A technique-first block that builds boat-handling basics and general fitness without overloading a new crew member.

Driver fitness and boat control

Reactive core strength and conditioning for holding a line and reading the surf from the throttle.

Crew fitness for punching through the break

Upper-body power and grip endurance for holding on and balancing as the boat crosses broken water.

Personalisation

How SportBlox personalises it

Your goal & event date

Sessions build toward the specific goal and date you set, with a taper if you're racing or competing.

Your skill level

Volume and intensity scale to where you actually are, from Inexperienced to Professional.

Your stated weaknesses

Tell SportBlox about things like grip and forearm fatigue late in a run, holding balance through chop, reacting fast when the boat rolls or stalls and the plan weights sessions toward fixing them.

Your schedule

The plan fits the days and time you say you have — not an idealised training week.

For coaches

Coaching an irb racing team?

SportBlox builds your team's training plan around the squad as a whole — its goals, weaknesses and upcoming events — and you review and refine every session before your athletes see it.

FAQ

IRB Racing training plan FAQ

Do I need a boat and crew to train?

On-water sessions assume access to an IRB and crew; flag limited access and SportBlox substitutes gym and conditioning work that still builds the strength this role demands.

Is this different for the driver vs crew position?

Yes — note your role and the plan shifts between reactive core strength for driving and upper-body pulling and grip work for crewing.

How many sessions per week?

Typically 4–5, mixing strength and conditioning with at least one on-water session and a rest day.

Is this suitable for a first season on an IRB?

Yes, skill level scales boat-handling complexity and volume for newer crew.

Will it build toward a specific carnival?

Add the carnival as an event and training periodises toward it, tapering in the final week.
