Kendo training plans, built for your goal
Kendo's power comes from hip drive through suri-ashi sliding footwork, not arm strength, and full bogu armour changes the conditioning demands entirely from unarmoured striking arts. SportBlox builds your kendo training plan around your goal, current level and grading timeline.
Who it's for
Passing your next grading
Suri-ashi footwork, kihon strikes and men/kote/do drills targeting your dan or kyu exam.
Competing in shiai
Reaction speed and ippon-scoring strike combinations for tournament bouts.
General kendo conditioning
Footwork endurance and core strength supporting regular dojo keiko.
A week of kendo training
Example: a 2nd kyu student preparing for a shodan grading. Your own plan is built around your event, level and schedule.
How SportBlox personalises it
Your goal & event date
Sessions build toward the specific goal and date you set, with a taper if you're racing or competing.
Your skill level
Volume and intensity scale to where you actually are, from Inexperienced to Professional.
Your stated weaknesses
Tell SportBlox about things like suri-ashi speed, hip drive on men strikes, stamina through repeated jigeiko rounds and the plan weights sessions toward fixing them.
Your schedule
The plan fits the days and time you say you have — not an idealised training week.
Kendo training plan FAQ
How many sessions per week does the plan include?
Typically 4–5 sessions of footwork, kihon and conditioning, with keiko sparring layered in and a rest day.
Do I need a shinai and bogu armour?
Kihon and footwork can be trained without full armour; jigeiko and keiko sessions assume dojo access with a shinai and bogu.
Is this suitable for beginners without a shinai yet?
Yes — set skill level to Inexperienced and the plan focuses on footwork and unarmoured kihon before sparring intensity.
Will it fit around my dojo's regular keiko schedule?
Tell SportBlox your dojo sessions and it builds supporting footwork and strength work around them.
Does it help me prepare for a specific grading?
Yes — flag your target grade and grading date and the plan sequences technique drilling to match what's typically examined.
