SURF RACE

Surf Race training plans, built for your goal

Surf Race tests your ability to read and swim through breaking waves, not just how fast you swim in a pool — pace, positioning and wave judgement all decide the result. SportBlox builds your surf race training plan around your ocean swim fitness and the carnivals on your calendar.

Personalisation

How SportBlox personalises it

Your goal & event date

Sessions build toward the specific goal and date you set, with a taper if you're racing or competing.

Your skill level

Volume and intensity scale to where you actually are, from Inexperienced to Professional.

Your stated weaknesses

Tell SportBlox about things like losing time getting through the break, pacing a long ocean swim, sprint finish after a hard swim leg and the plan weights sessions toward fixing them.

Your schedule

The plan fits the days and time you say you have — not an idealised training week.

For coaches

Coaching a surf race team?

SportBlox builds your team's training plan around the squad as a whole — its goals, weaknesses and upcoming events — and you review and refine every session before your athletes see it.

FAQ

Surf Race training plan FAQ

Do I need ocean access to train?

Ocean sessions are ideal, but SportBlox substitutes pool swim sets with race-effort intervals when you flag pool-only access.

How many sessions per week?

Typically 4–5, mixing endurance swimming with strength and at least one full rest day.

Is it suitable moving up from nippers to seniors?

Yes, skill level scales volume and wave-condition complexity for that transition.

Does the plan follow the surf season and carnival calendar?

Yes — add your carnivals as events and training periodises toward them.

Will it work around my club's patrol duties?

Tell it your patrol commitments as a schedule constraint and sessions are planned around them.
